Welcome to Remarkables Primary School
Remarkables Primary School is New Zealand's newest primary school having opened for the first time on Thursday 4th February, 2010. It is believed to be the first new state primary school in the lower South Island since 1981.
The Building Design |

|
Our school buildings are at the leading edge of 21st Century design following the principles of architect Prakesh Nair. It
is his research and work that has led to the school having spaces for
waterholes (meeting places for students), campfires (where adults share
wisdom with the young) and caves (private and secure places) for
children and adults.
The building design is based around pods, groups of four classrooms clustered around a central space. Classrooms will be fully networked and set up for technology.
To ensure a smooth transition for the school into the Wakatipu area, Remarkables Primary School will have a staggered opening over the next three years. In 2010, for terms one and two the school will be open to Year 1 and 2 students while the building programme is completed. The remainder of our buildings will be opened in term three and at this time the school will extend its enrolments to Years 3 and 4.
In 2011, we will further our enrolment intake to include Year 5 and 6 students and in 2012 Year 7 and 8 students. Over the next three years it will grow to its capacity of 460.
Why create Remarkables Primary School?
Queenstown Lakes District Council is the fastest growing district in NZ. The community are very excited about this long awaited school. Within the Frankton, Wakatipu community we have a diverse range of cultures. With this it is our aim for Remarkables Primary School to be a central hub within our local community.
